I have been reading a bunch of blogs and the comments all over the net after the results of the SC Democratic Primary. A theme that runs through the majority of them is the shock at the tactics of the Clinton's and the distaste that Democrats have for Bill and Hillary. Why is anyone surprised? They have been spewing gutter politics for decades now. Maybe, just maybe it has caught up with them. We will see.
When I was watching the various speeches after the results were in, I noticed that Hillary basically didn't even acknowledge the race in SC and is on to somewhere else. She probably wants to be anywhere else, However, the most telling comment by a Clinton tonight was when the Ex-Pres expressed his joy at the fact that "finally now, millions of people will be voting". He is at it already. In my opinion this was code speak for - I'm glad we are moving on to where mostly white people vote. Remember, there are no coincidences with the Clinton's.
Mr. Obama gave a good victory speech tonight after the primary and I noticed that with him, a widening of the audience was one of his goals. He has now had a very decisive victory and Edwards for all intents and purposes is toast, so it is down to two in the Democratic party. Omama will have to convince the Democrats that HE is the candidate that can win. He will have to show that his appeal is national and that it is not a niche thing.
We Republicans had better watch our step. Whether we like it or not there are at least two facts that we cannot deny. Our party is greatly fractured. just listen to all of the hubub regarding who is worthy of being a Republican. The Republicans have been talking about it for weeks now. So much so that the real issues important to voters are being ignored. All of this crap is just turning Republican voters off AND away.

We had better get on track real soon or we will be arguing about worthyness for four years and will wake up and realize that the 2008 election has been lost. The second fact is that Obama really has struck a cord in this Country. That cord is unity. His message is positive and inclusive. Now, I don't know what his specific positions are on the issues. He has not had to get that specific yet and I'm sure he will - that is if we stop beating each other up and get focused - but none the less, his message is resonating.
At the risk of being called, dare I say, a moderate or worse. Maybe we could take a page or two from him.
